An old photo of Matt and I (KK) celebrating my 6th birthday with some cake mmmmm..

When I discovered this photo, I found myself reminiscing on our journey together, as cousins, friends, and bandmates, pretty much since birth! I remember jamming together on family vacations throughout high school and seeing Matt fall in love with music. While applying for colleges, I recall receiving a text from him that read something like, “A. get into UCLA B. lets start a band”. It was not a very serious statement at the time and looking back three years, I wouldn’t have guessed we would ever be where we are now.

It has been unreal, playing in a band with my cousin, growing with him musically and emotionally, and sharing one of the most fun and unique experiences of our lives. Its funny the way things work out sometimes. I wouldn’t trade em, even for Jimi Hendrix rising out of his grave.

Funnny enough, our mothers are actually twin sisters, so we like to kid we’re basically half-brothers, and really we’ve grown to be exactly that.

TACO TRUCK on Barry and Santa Monica. 1 cecina, 1 chorizo and 1 barbacoa, or as KG calls it, ‘1 barbecue taco’. Mmmmmmm…. AND THEN, 2 more tacos de cecina and 1 horchata. Ohhhhhh probably a bad decision, but no regrets.

A much needed midnight grub sesh after a welcome back practice to 3/5 of the internship. I called Kyle K while he was on highway 5 and was like, “Do you guys want some time to unpack and chill out?”

He was like, “NO we’re pretty much ready to jam AS SOON AS we get back.”

And we did, for four and half hours.

Hello!

It’s really fun for me to reflect back to last spring quarter and the fun we had trying “The Internship” out. Things happen so fast around ucla, and I guess our band wasn’t any exception. That said, we rarely have time to stand still and let things “marinate,” as Matt so fondly likes to put it when we write songs.

We’re starting up this little blog for a bunch of reasons. The main one can be explained through its name “the lower drawer.” Sort of a silly play on our “Internship,” the lower desk drawer is where we would keep a bunch of random things that aren’t necessarily needed every day, but are nice to hold on to. Once in a while we’ll need to clean everything out and start digging through the drawer—and end up tripping through memory lane. Hopefully, the content that we put into this tumble thing will be exciting for us to scroll through and reminisce. And also maybe some of our friends will enjoy what we share, too.

This band has become a big part of our lives at school, to say the least. We have no clue where it’s going, plenty of clues where we want it to go… but this blog will do its best to capture that journey.

Our drummer Julian gets appendicitis, and has to go into surgery. Glad he could still keep an upbeat spirit!

By now we’ve narrowed down the cause of this appendicitis to either having too much swag on drums, or eating waaay too much (by that I mean all) of that ‘plato tipico’ with unlimited (warm) chips n salsa at Gloria’s Cafe (Salvadoran & Mexican food) a couple days before. And I mean eating to the point where you’re scared to let out a burp, because it might escalate into something…worse (I’ve seen it been done, no names). Also, we jammed after that dinner til like 3am on our full stomachs, so maybe the appendix just hit a point where it was like screw this.

Anyway, appendix or no appendix, we’ve been working on a lot of new songs and are VERY excited to play them soon!!!!
